District of Red Lights
School project. For this assignment, we were asked to make two posters, drawing inspiration from our recent school trip to Amsterdam.
With our motel being situated in the heart of the Red Light District, we got to experience the neighbourhood as this picturesque and charming neighbourhood housing exquisite bakeries and hip design stores in the daytime, only to see it turn into this grimy nightlife central, celabrating everything sexual, mind-altering and taboo-ridden. In a nutshell, that is. I wanted to capture this contrast in the two posters, giving them a bit of a “children’s book for grownups” type of feel. The little symbol (a logo of sorts) draws together different icons of Amsterdam; the three X’s, the A and the tulip.
